This Conference is part of the Programme of European Research Conferences which is run by the European Science Foundation in association with several European scientific societies. Besides natural and life sciences, this Programme also covers technical sciences, economics, social sciences and humanities as well as interdisciplinary areas.
The Programme is now largely financed by the Euroconferences Activity of the European Union on a case by case basis. The Conferences are mainly held all over the Europe Union. This Programme promotes series of discussion meetings, held typically every other year. As a rule, there are no proceedings. New ideas and results discussed during the meeting should not be cited in publications without the explicit permission of their author. All participants are expected to attend for the whole duration of the Conference. The Conferences are open to scientists from all over the world. The number of participants will be limited to about 100. Selection is made on the basis of the affinity of potential participants with the topics of the conference.
A Conference Fee covering board and lodging and a registration fee (including social programme (if any), group transportation (if any) will be charged to participants and a fee covering board and lodging and social programme will be charged for accompanying guests.

"O conhecimento sobre o arte rupestre da América do Sul praticamente explodiu nos últimos dez anos. Isto foi o produto de um maior interesse acadêmico, da tomada de consciência do seu particular e único valor como patrimônio, e da expansão e surgimento das atividades organizadas pelas Universidades e pelas ONG especializadas, em vários países.
Esse Simpósio procura brindar o contexto para que os pesquisadores brindem os resultados dos seus trabalhos tanto nas pesquisas de campo, nos aspectos teóricos e metodológicos que desenvolveram, as ações de preservação e prevenção, técnicas de levamento, documentação e análises das políticas suportadas pelos institutos oficiais de Patrimônio em nossos países.
Procuramos que ao final do Simpósio possamos realizar uma síntese do estado atual da investigação da arte rupestre na América do Sul e propor resoluções acadêmicas que apoiem o trabalho dos institutos reconhecidos internacionalmente nas áreas legal, administrativa e nas políticas de planificação de seus respetivos países."(Divulgação).
